As I’m sitting here, I can’t help but see how blessed I am. You see, during this challenge I never planned on writing my own commentary, because I did not want to add or take away from the messages I’m sharing. But I just can’t help, but proclaim the faithfulness of God. The faithfulness of his ability to communicate with us, personally each and every day.
Going into this challenge I wanted to have each podcast picked out ahead of time. I came up with a spreadsheet, went through my favorite church messages, highlighted the touching ones, examined the length of each, determined to only play messages under so many minutes as to not deter people from listening, I did everything a good analytical person would do.
But, I had absolutely no peace with adding the podcasts to pre scheduled posts for the week. I had no peace with only sharing short messages. I had no peace with planning the messages ahead of time.
Come Sunday I only had one message that I felt confident enough to share “Listening to God”, which I shared on Monday. But I needed a message for Tuesday and the rest of the week, so Monday I made a point to search out The MESSAGE for the week.
I came upon a messaged entitled Coming Back Home, which goes on to speak about the Prodigal Son.. It’s a message I’ve heard before, something worth sharing, but I was not convinced, yet, that was The MESSAGE..
I found one entitled It Ain’t Nothing But a Thang, followed by countless reasons as to why I should share it.. I became confident that it was The MESSAGE for Tuesday, but I was still searching for the rest of the week.
As I continued to search for messages, among other things.. I stumbled upon an article..
This article was written by a mother giving tribute to her son, Patrick Falterman. Patrick was recently lost in a tragic aviation accident that involved a fellow alum of mine, Zach Esthers. *Note, I did not know Patrick and I only knew Zach at a distance*
In the article, she spoke about her beloved son, and mentioned a blog he wrote.. Curious about this pilot’s explorations I searched the blog to see what he was like, hitchtheworld.com
I was immediately impressed by Patrick’s tenacity, and the life he lived. The bravery it took to trek across countries and blog about various subjects. You might think that’s not bravery.. But having the world know your thoughts and opinions on various topics, is more intimate than you could imagine.
I continued on by reading the beautiful eulogy his father shared. As I read the Eulogy I was moved by the the raw emotion Pat Falterman Sr. was able to share with the world.
But what moved me most, was how he shared about the Prodigal Son. The very same Bible story I had just finished listening to..
I feel it was God’s way of reassuring me of this man’s soul is with Him.
That might strike you as intrusive, how dare I contemplate his salvation, if he was going to heaven, or if he was going to hell?
Do people actually talk about going to hell?
Well, I do.
Because it’s a place I don’t wish for anyone, even a perfect stranger.
There’s no salvation apart from Jesus Christ.
There’s no one that can convince you of this truth, but Him.
My hope is that if you’re reading this and you don’t have the assurance of eternal salvation, that you will start to ask those daring questions. That you start seeking answers, because just as God answered me today, He has the ability to answer all of your questions too.
Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.’ –Jeremiah 33:3
**My prayers are with the Falterman and Esthers family, may God give you peace in this season of testing. If you’d like to donate to the Falterman Memorial Scholarship there is a way to do that on the website, HitchtheWorld, and Pat Falterman’s Eulogy is shared there too***
